Namco System N2 troubleshooting

Please note that many of the symptoms here could simply just be bad capacitors. So if none of the fixes below work for your issue, replacing any through-hole capacitors is a good last resort before replacing your motherboard, especially ones that are bulged, leaking or have visible damage

The N2 will not turn on whatsoever

Check the PSU cables are plugged in correctly, if the N2 still does not turn on try a different psu, if it still shows no life a new/repaired motherboard is likely required)

The N2 turns on but shuts off after a certain amount of time with no signal output

Make sure the CPU is seated properly and is being sufficently cooled/powered. Trying a new PSU could also help. If neither of these work the CPU may have burned out or the motherboard may require replacement/repair

The N2 outputs a high low siren tone from the internal speaker

The N2 outputs a tone out of the internal speaker other than the one above

Check that your RAM is seated properly, If this doesnt work try a different ram slot and/or taking out one ram stick and leaving the other in (if you have 2GB). If these dont work either your motherboard or GPU is most likely faulty

The N2s screen output is filled with "Boot failed..."

Check the HDD is plugged in properly. If this does not work either the HDD is no recieving enough power, the IDE controller on the motherboard is dead, the HDD data cable is faulty or the HDD itself has died

The N2 freezes during the bootup process

Try a new HDD. If this does not work then a device in your N2 may be faulty. If the N2 freezes on a module load the module could give away the fault (nvsound is sound, nvidia is video, forcedeth is ethernet)

The N2 has weird artifacts on screen/corrupted 3d graphics

Try a replacement GPU. If this does not work try swapping the RAM. If neither of these work your HDD or motherboard is faulty

The N2 randomly shuts off/freezes

Try a new PSU. If this does not work try repasting your CPU/GPU as they could be overheating. If this still doesnt work your motherboard is likely faulty

The N2 is running slowly

Make sure that your CPU is at least 2ghz and your GPU matches or is better than the original spec. If neither of these work try repasting as your CPU/GPU could be overheating. Some alternate rev mobos (especially the ones marked "SYSTEM N2 MOTHER PCB") have a tendancy to cause this too. Upgrading the RAM amount from 1GB to 2GB is also known to help with maximum tune 3dx+

The N2 occasionally generates graphical issues even with a new GPU

You most likely have a few bad capacitors on your motherboard that need replacing, look for bulged/leaky capacitors and replace them

The N2s audio output outputs a high pitched whining when nvsound is loaded

This is caused by a bad audio circuit. Try replacing the surface mount caps around the audio IC at the bottom left of the motherboard, otherwise replace the motherboard
